Stories and Sunsets: A Collection for the Wild Readers

March has always felt special to me.

It’s the month winter loosens its grip. The air feels softer. The kids start asking to play outside again. And it’s National Reading Month — which feels like the perfect excuse to slow down and celebrate something that has shaped so much of who I am and who I am becoming.

I’ve loved reading for as long as I can remember.

Books were my adventure before I ever traveled.

They were my comfort on hard days.

They were my teachers, my escape, my imagination stretching wide open.

And now, as a mama, literacy feels even more sacred.

Reading with my kids on the couch.

Stacks of books by the door, in the car, and packed in all our bags everytime we leave the house.

A paperback tucked into my bag “just in case.”

Watching little hands turn pages.

There is something powerful about stories. They build empathy. They build imagination. They build confidence. They build connection.

And around here? We believe they also keep us a little wild.

Why Stories and Sunsets Was Created

There’s a specific moment that inspired this entire collection.

Golden hour in Texas.

The sun dipping low over open land.

A quiet house.

A good book in your lap.

That feeling of being completely present — yet completely transported somewhere else.

This collection was designed for:

  • The porch readers

  • The pasture wanderers

  • The book club girls

  • The boys who read under big open skies

  • The mamas who stay up “just one more chapter” too late

We created six designs — some softer and feminine, others rustic and unisex — so everyone can find something that feels like them.

Because reading isn’t one-size-fits-all.

And neither is staying wild.

Reading, Literacy, and Staying Wild

National Reading Month isn’t just about books — it’s about access. It’s about encouragement. It’s about creating homes where stories are normal, celebrated, and loved.

It’s about raising kids who see books as adventure. It’s about modeling curiosity. It’s about carving out five quiet minutes in a loud world.

In our house, books live everywhere — on nightstands, in baskets, in the truck, on the porch swing.

Reading reminds me to:

Slow down.

Look up.

Imagine bigger.

Wander further.

And that spirit — the mix of grounded and free — is exactly what Lazy Jackalope has always been about.

A little rustic.

A little whimsical.

A little Texas folklore.

A whole lot of heart.

Wear Your Story

Stories & Sunsets is more than a collection.

It’s a reminder.

To read often.

To chase golden hour.

To raise readers.

To stay curious.

To stay wild.

If you’ve ever packed a book before packing your shoes…

You’re our kind of people.

In March, $5 from every order will go directly to support Texas Public Libraries. We are excited to help share the wonder of reading and give back to the libraries that have supported us every step of our journey.

Thank you for supporting this small business, this dream, and this little community of wild readers.

With gratitude,

Courtney
